What is bruxism?
The grinding and clenching of one’s teeth is called bruxism, and this habit can lead to painful and loose teeth, according to Colgate. Bruxism has the potential to destroy the bone and gum tissues that surround the teeth. It may be difficult to self-diagnose bruxism, as it most often occurs when a person is asleep or unconscious.
A trip to the dentist might significantly help in determining whether or not you suffer from bruxism. This condition may cause pain in the jaw, face, neck, or head.
Bruxism may be treated in different ways, depending on the cause. Wearing a mouth guard while sleeping is a very common treatment, but it is not a permanent cure. Other treatments include finding new ways to relax (since stress is a major trigger for teeth grinding) and selective teeth filing to reduce contact points in the teeth.
